Relevance
Oral submucous fibrosis is a potent oral precancerous condition of South East Asia, where an overall high incidence of oral cancer is reported.  A high prevalence figure, much above national average, of the disease is reported among Kerala population.  Considering its precancerous potency and the general lack of awareness regarding its causation an attempt was made to undertake this investigation, which ends in the award of a Ph.D degree. During the investigation the pathogenesis of the disease became more apparent and could formulate an alternative pathogenetic pathway for oral submucous fibrosis, which was well appreciated by the scientific community.  (Ref. Med. Hypothesis 30:35-42; 1989).
