seeks your opinion on the following case
A 4 year boy presented with chief complaint of swelling
in upper left back region of mouth since last 5 months. Patient underwent
extraction of the grossly carious 64 & 65, 3 months back in our institution.
Swelling did not subside even after extraction. On examination, A bony hard
swelling is present in left maxilla extending from 63 to distal aspect of
65.Tender on palpation. A well-defined radiolucent lesion extended from the
mesial surface of 63 to unerupted 26. Lesion exhibited ill-defined
radio-opacity.
We obtained two lining epithelium, one surrounding the tooth
like structure and another within the tooth like areas. Bone was associated with
Dentin. Could this structure be considered as an odontoma? Click here for photomicrographs
Case 40:
Prof. Vandana Shah seeks your valuable opinion on the
following case.
C/O:-
pt complains of growth in lower front region since 2 months and slowly increased
to present size of 2 x1.5 cms.
On examination:- Firm, non-tender lesion measuring about 2 x1.5 cms, fixed to
overlying edentulous oral mucosa. Pt gives history of denture wearing since last
10 years.
Provisional Diagnosis: Fibrous Epulis
· Histologic features: the mass was composed of predominantly spindle shaped
cells arranged in various patterns. The lesion is partially encapsulated but
well demarcated from overlying atrophic/ stretched oral mucosa (pics 1 & 2).
Normal hyperplasic oral epithelium was also evident in few areas (pic 3). In
many areas, traumatic neuroma like proliferations of neural tissue with wavy,
elongated, nuclei arranged in swirls and haphazardly were noted (pics 4 & 5).
Antoni A, Verocay bodies of Schwannoma were seen in the same case. Click here for photomicrographs
